Are You DVS Ready?
DVS & PSS
SideScan and multi-channel DVR camera systems are the new standard in in-vehicle safety by eliminating blind spots. By using a CMS, you effective elliminate the blind spots for the driver. It also give you peace of mind when it comes to insurance claims and where the blame lies within an incident. With this information, you are about to teach the driver of what could be done to mitigate the circumstance.
Camera's and MDVR's
We have already touched on why camera’s need to be fitted, but what options are out there?
The CMS is made up of at least 4 camera’s, but with the option of having up to 8 channels. By using Durite’s DVR systems, these gives us some of the best DVR’s on the market. We only supply and install connected DVR’s so you have the knowledge that you can access the camera’s at any given time.
4 Channel
The 4 channel kit consists of forward facing camera attached to the windscreen, 2 side camera’s installed on both from corners at the highest practicable point so they do not get damaged and see everything that they are required to, and a rear facing camera typically mounted on the rear of the chassis. This kit is well suited to a rigid vehicle, but we can install a change-over unit that allows 5 camera’s to be used, but one changes from one camera to another, for example: cab mounted camera that aid’s the driver to see the trailer hitching up and prevents missing the pin, to a trailer mounted reversing camera connected via a 5 pin “suzie”. This suzie will be keyed differently from standard 24N & 24S suzies to prevent incorrect connection.
8 Channel
8 Channel
The 8 Channel kit consists of the same camera’s and locations as the 4 channel, but also includes driver facing, load facing, and 2 auxiliary camera’s installed at your discretion. This kit is the most comprehensive when it comes to safety, with full 360 degree coverage of every part of the vehicle.
Extra's
Both kits have the option of a 7″ monitor installed, along with indicator and reverse channel lock meaning that the monitor shows the respective camera image, E.G. When the left hand indicator is on, the left hand camera is shown exclusively on the monitor. This applies to right hand, left hand and rear facing camera’s. SideScan
What is "SideScan"
SideScan is a very clever piece of technology. It utilises a sensor system not too different from Parking-Aid sensors. These are fitted along the nearside, or left hand, side for the full length of the vehicle and works when the left hand indicator is activated and the vehicle speed is below 20mph to give the driver an audible warning if there is a pedestrian present on their nearside in a blindspot. This is required as the mirror and wide angle mirrors on large vehicles still have large blind spots.
We will only use Brigade SideScan Predict, which allows us to install upto 6 sensor for each given vehicle. With this system, we can cover as much of the left and/or right hand side of the vehicle and also matches the PSS specification for London that comes into force in 2024. This also includes installing them into articulated vehicles, both on the tractor unit AND trailer!
Signage
As well as CMS & SideScan, warning signage and lamps are required. This helps by making your vehicle more visible to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users, and by informing pedestrians and other road users of the dangers from the blindspots. By fitting warning lamps, it mitigates the danger of cyclists running up the near side of the vehicle when the left hand indicator is on. We can supply and install signage and bargeboards over the side guards & on the rear of the vehicle to help make your vehicle seen!
